Malay Heritage Centre, National Heritage Board
Asmah Alias is the General Manager of Malay Heritage Centre (MHC), one of the heritage institutions under the National Heritage Board (NHB) which provides wonderful cultural exposure and learning opportunities for visitors of all ages. Asmah oversees the various divisions in the MHC which includes curatorial, programming, education and outreach and operations. Prior to this, she was the Deputy Director of Education & Community Outreach at the NHB and led her team in bringing education programmes outside the museum walls to schools to allow students to discover heritage and culture at their doorsteps and become advocates of heritage in their community. Asmah also previously headed the team at NHB that manages museum volunteers and heritage grants. Under her leadership, the team has won several awards for their outreach and education programmes including the Best Practice Award by International Council of Museums’ (ICOM) Committee for Education & Cultural Action (CECA) for two consecutive years. Asmah is also currently a board member of two international committees in ICOM which promotes development of museum education and cultural action.
